"Gather round strangers and take heed...

What I am about to tell you,

is not for the squeamish.

Come I shall enlighten you to things

that might make you laugh...

Things that will amaze you

 and cause you to cry.

And after all is said,

 I desire not your sympathy,

nor want rejection...

I ask not for your judgment...

Just your understanding.

I was no hero...I merle survived;

Yet I am in constant realization of

 "The Nam" in everyday occurrences.

They bring me back to the Highlands

Where we've humped day in and day out,

endlessly looking for what we all

knew would surely bring death upon us at any moment, any second, any footstep...

a very elusive enemy.

One swing from a tightly wound rope,

 craftily wired into

insignificant existence,

swiftly exhumes your buddy

as he trips the wire, hidden skillfully

beneath the forest floor.

In front of your very eyes,

he is impaled to this mechanism,

as it swallows his soul!

He is no longer a friend who was walking

 in the jungle with you...

lying cold and lifeless in a seconds passing...

but now just a lagging memory

to all who took witness.

When we hear the distant humming

of a Huey four or five miles out ...

suddenly Our minds have gone from

walking through the park,

to crawling toward any wall or dugout!

Because in that instant, We’re back there!

And

we will always be a part of The Herd...

The 173rd Airborne Fire Brigade.

It lives within All That were a part of this

elite group.

 This is our story.

I don't have memories of killing people, or lots of blood and guts,

I'll leave that to other storytellers.

What I do have are a lot of other memories.

the sorts of things that happened to all grunts at some time during there tours.

Our new reality was this jungle where the rules and laws of America didn't exist, this was…

The REAL World

Have you ever Walked The Walk?

These pictures represented in our slide show are the ones my buddy

Pat Okubo took while we served together. He was able to contact

me through a mutual buddy that had been to our Bunkers and passed my

name along to him. We then arranged to have his slides sent to us

from his home  so they could be included in this tribute.

I thank him for that, and our story consists of what we experienced

as Infantry Grunts With The 173rd Airborne Brigade,

Contact Charlie” company in The 1st of The 503rd.

None of it was exaggerated or made up.

its’ a reality we shall carry forever!

You won't find a story of blood and guts or a story that comes from Hollywood,

you won't find a story of women or babies being killed or mutilated,

I wasn't a Rambo wannabe or a "super soldier", I was simply

one of many 18 year old kids who didn't know any better,

fighting in a war that no-one cared about.

WE ARE VETWIVES

{They have to live with us!}

We are the wives of men who fought for freedom
We are the wives of men wounded in battle
We are the wives of men who will never be forgotten
We are the wives of men whose names are carved in our hearts
We are the wives of men who served our country

We are the wives of men who still fight for freedom
We are the wives of men who continue to battle
We are the wives of men who fight not to be forgotten
We are the wives of men who are mending their hearts
We are the wives of men who need their country to serve them
